Do the Obvious Things First

We’ll start with the easiest tips first which can be done on a tighter budget and end with tips which might cost a little more but provide vibrant results.

1. Tidy & Update Your Front Landscaping

This can be a do-it-yourself job or a more detailed landscaper task. Create a low maintenance front yard if you’re planning to put your home on the market, or if you’re rarely home, you’ll thank yourself for establishing an easier routine.

Trim and prune any bushes and trees, remove weeds or dead plants, and mow the grass – or replace it with lower maintenance grass sod.

Add some floral foliage or a few evergreens to add interest. You can add fresh bark mulch to flower beds to make your landscaping look pristine.

If stone or brick borders your bed, consider cleaning and resetting any pieces that are soiled or dislodged. Upgrade the border to stone or a decorative cast concrete edging.

2. Clean the Exterior Windows & Gutters

Use a power washer to clean the mold or dirt on the exterior walls or siding. Clean the exterior of the windows with a water hose or appropriate window power washer with window cleaning solution attached.

Clean out the gutters. If you notice your gutters are damaged, call a professional contractor to replace them with seamless gutters

3. Repair Stucco, Loose Bricks, or Stones

If your exterior is covered with bricks but have a few loose ones, be sure that gets repaired. This could be a do-it-yourself task if it’s a minor job – a loose brick or two. However, you may want a professional to repair a larger job.

The same goes with stucco. If you see it cracking or falling into pieces, if you’re not an experienced do-it-yourselfer, get this fixed with an exterior home remodeling contractor.

4. Replace Your Siding With Newer Materials

Siding is often used in Minnesota homes because it acts as the first line of defense against all types of weather hazards. It also covers the joints in your house’s structure and adds another layer of insulation.

If your siding is cracked, damaged, or just looks dull, a new siding material or bolder color might just add that extra enhancement your home’s exterior needs. Popular siding materials include vinyl, steel, cement fiber, cedar, and LP Smartside.

5. Paint the House or the Front Door

Your home's front entry is the focal point of its curb appeal. Make a statement by painting your front door a pop of color or installing a custom door, then add a beautiful wreath for that personal touch.

If your home hasn’t been painted in the last 10 years, it might be time to repaint and give it a fresh look.

6. Replace the Look of Your Outdated Windows

Updated energy efficient windows are very noticeable from the street. We can’t say enough on how it visually enhances curb appeal to make it appear clean and new, not to mention, saves money on utility bills.
